These days I was working in a program that will use wxWidgets framework.
Basically, the application will have many panels and all of them must have a background image.
In my mind I had 2 options:
- for each panel I could put a background image in wxPanel plus all the controls that each panel required
- create a base class derived from wxPanel that would contain the background image and make it the base class for each panel in the application.
The second approach is better because that way I’d eliminate code duplication. That was the path I followed.
How would that work? When a class that inherited from BaseScreen were created, always the paint event of BaseScreen would be called prior to the paint event from the child class.
This way the image would be draw in on top of it the controls from child class would be draw. It would give the effect of having a background image. Continue reading
Today I restaured my old backup (from April 22nd, 2014).
I had to move from one hosting to another and I forgot to make a backup of the blog prior to cancel my hosting account. Shame on me!

Today I updated the BitMapFont project from Zaphod in order to it compile on new version of openfl (currently it’ for NME library).
I tested it with Flash, HTML5 and Android and it seems to be working as the original version.
I also submitted him a pull request. While he doesn’t accept it you can get the project from here.
I hope it helps someone.
All kudos for Zaphod for providing such useful library. Any problem in this new version is my fault.

Sometime ago I installed Ububtu on my brand new machine.
For some reasons I decided to remove Linux and install Windows 7. Everything worked fine until recently when my machine refused to boot showing the error message
error: unknown filesystem. grub rescue>_
This problem was caused because I didn’t removed Grub from MBR (Master Boot Record) and for some unknown reason it got lost.
The solution for this is quite simple.

The tool of many that want to develop for Android and that develop for iPhone is the Adobe Air.
Why? Because it lets flash developers take advantage of a knowledge they already have.
