The last post I told you how I decided which game I’d develop. Moreover, I’ve explained how I wish to represent the game in the mobile device.
To recap, Even or Odd rules are::
- there are two players. One designated even and the other one designated odd. One player is a human being and the other is a robot.
- each one can show any number of fingers between zero and five.
- the sum of both fingers is either an even or an odd number. This defines who won.
To represent all possible hands each player could chose I would need at least five hands. But it would be a little confusing to show both users hands pointing to the same side.
So I decided that human player’s hand would point to right and that the opponent hand (the “game’s robot”) would point to left. Thus it would be easy to know which hand belongs to the human player and which belongs to the robot hand. Now I’d need 10 images.
Based in what was explained I created the sketches bellow.
Picture 1 – My first attempt to show all available hands the user can chose
Picture 2 – How I would present user and computer guesses.
These sketches gave me an idea about what kind of images would be needed.
But what about the background? And the splash screen? An application Icon is also needed because I want to give a professional look to my game. Wouldn’t you?
Moreover, which sizes should images have? Which type were acceptable? Png? Jpg? Gif?
Do Android Market requires any kind of image? Which one?
After some research I found out the following information:
| Application icon | LDPI (120dpi) 2″-3″ | MDPI (160dpi) 3″-4″ | HDPI (240dpi) 4″-7″ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formato | PNG 24 | PNG 24 | PNG 24 |

What is in bold is what I need to publish my game.
Ok. At this point I had an idea about images I would need. The problem is that I didn’t know how to do it ’cause I’m not a graphical designer.
In next post I’ll tell you how I hired the designer, the do’s and don’ts of this very important activity. Not only where to find them, but how to do it in a safe way. Moreover, I will specify my mistakes in the hope you don’t make them.
