Income report #4

Hi. This is the fourth of a series of reports that I will post each and every month summarizing my progress.

This month I have a surprise for you. I have not only one but three sources of income. The first one is my earnings from Android games development.

The second one comes from advertising on the web page.

The third one comes from a url shortener.

Income Summary

  • $ 3.80(+2.93) Ads in my free Android games – This was the best month. It’s too little yet, but it’s getting better. You can see the graphics in picture 1.

Picture 1 – Earnings with my free Android games
  • $0.99 Ads on my web page. See the graphics in picture 2.

Picure 2 – Earnings with ads on my homepage
  • $0.47873Ads from my url shortener– See the graphics in picture 3.
Picture 3 – Earnings from my url shortener

Making money with Android apps and games and with advertising in the webpage may seem a regular thing for you, but you may be wondering about shortening urls.

Last month I came across a fantastic tool that is helping me making money by doing something I was already doing: shortening urls.

How does it work? You just need to register yourself and then short your urls. Every time someone clicks in the shortened link you’ve created an ad is shown for 5 seconds before user is redirected to the original url. That’s it. You made some easy money.

Moreover, payments are made automatically once per month, providing you have reached the minimum withdrawal amount of $5.00.

I’ve earned $0.47873with just 65 posts on twitter and 1044 visitors on my site on October 2011. That’s a too little number of visitors. Imagine how much one can earn with thousands of visitors.

Better yet, much like ads it provides passive income. The more you write, the more links you produce wht means more money for you.

Know what? Register to start earning right now.

Can you help me to improve my numbers in the next months? So, please give a try on my games, write about them, ask your friends to give a try on them, tweet this post url and share it on facebook.

You can see all my income reports here.

  1. Hi!

You have quite small nummber of visitors and comments as well. Keep doing this thing in experience sharing and your stats will improve!

    Good luck!

    1. Hi, Armand.

I’m very concerned about this problem. Could you please tell me more details?

What’s the exact device model, firmware version, symptoms.

I looked for Samsung GS2 and I found the following:

      Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II – Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread)Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T – Android OS, v2.3.4 (Gingerbread)Samsung Galaxy S II T-Mobile – Android OS, v2.3.5 (Gingerbread)Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch – v2.3.4 (Gingerbread)

Is your mobile on of them?

Bellow is the list of devices where I’m sure my game works because both it was tested on some of them or because Flurry’s analytics tell me the game was executed many times on them.

      Thank you a lot.

      1. Hi Marcio,

Sorry, I didn’t replay on your replay (I dint look on this article comments).

Now it is working properly also on my phone.

Just few comments/questions on your game (from my non-developer-experience, just user):

        1) what is your target market on this game? I played it for few times and that’s it! One thing what I have understood from Andoid market – you have to make the game that makes player play it as long as possible. In your case – few seconds and game is over and there is no add on it.

        2) I dont like that there is an advert in the first opened screen – it makes me feel confusing- what I have to choose to play the game.

        3) On my Samsung I push ESC button and it is not working – hard to leave the game – there is feeling that I have traped in the game – not a good sign for great game (hard to leave the game). I will return if it is good game. Make it easy to leave the game.

I am just developing my first game parallel my daily work and preparing for getting inside the REAL market. But I am looking on the games as my market audience and really hope that it will help me in game development and promotion.

        Good luck!

P.S. My fist step is blog based homepage You have a great chance to look on it as it is now. 🙂
I have also posted you as one my favorite blogs, cause you are so welcoming and passionate in your “project”.

Sorry for my English too! 🙂

        1. Hi.

I’m glad to hear my game worked on your phone.

          1) I completely agree with you that the longer the game the better to keep users running it.

My first two games (Even Or Odd and MatchSticks) are really tiny. It was on purpose. I have a great expertise developing for Telecommunication Industry but I’ve never ever made any thing in the game area.

How am I supposed to develop a game when I know nothing about it? So I  decided to start developing the simplest game possible and game after game I want to learn something new what will lead to a game a little more complex (and I hope) better than the previous one.

          2) I don’t like the position were ads are positioned. The point is that inneractive (the advertiser network I’m using) has an Ad Placement Strrategy document to help you decide were to put ads.

As stated in the document: “The main goal of the ad placement strategy should be to find a balance between getting the user’s attention, increasing the willingness to click, and avoiding hindering the user-experience”.

Moreover, when you use  inneractive they provide you an personal account manager that will review your game and give you advices were you should place your ads. I just follow what was suggested.

          3)  Currently I only allow user to quit by pressing Quit button on main menu. I didn’t thing it would be an issue to anyone.

For sure I will follow your advice and let users quit any time on my next games. Maybe I release an update for Even Or Odd and MatchSticks too.

By the way, I’m know following you blog. I think that sharing experiences is good for all of us.

A point: why don’t you buy a domain and a hire a hosting service instead of using a free site? My hosting service provider is cheap and allow you to host as many domains as you want, use unlimited band width, disk space and database space. I think it looks more professional.

Let me know when you release your apps and games so I will twit about them.
